Set in the grisly surrounds of 'The Dissection Room' at Edinburgh's exciting new Fringe venue, Summerhall (the former ‘Dick Vet’ building of Edinburgh University), Noir! returns with its most exciting project yet.

Alexander McQueen’s legacy of bold, brave ingenuity continues to inspire beyond the borders of the fashion world. Noir! #9 takes this opportunity to respectfully commemorate his burial on the Isle of Skye and celebrate a true genius.

FASHION /// Centered on a fashion show presenting a collection of exquisite womenswear and menswear from HARVEY NICHOLS, guests can expect a showcase of the best of the Scottish fashion industry creatives and models set within the context of cutting edge fashion, art, film and music.

FILM /// Also presented on the night will be two exceptional art installation films by award winning directors. Created for Scottish Ballet’s 40th anniversary exhibition, Daniel Warren’s Mercury enters a previously unseen, slowed down world of motion featuring dancers from Scottish Ballet. Dramatic high-definition sequences are interspersed with documentary glimpses of the intensive processes and conversations, which lead to the creation of movement.

“Black” is an exquisite video piece by Chloe Coetsee, Black Coffee and Givan Lotz that accompanied the Black Coffee fashion installation at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York; it subsequently traveled to the Iziko National Gallery of South Africa. The film explores a journey of mysticism and ritual as reflected within the Black Coffee collection, South Africa’s leading maverick fashion designers.

MUSIC /// We're excited to announcespecial guest performance from Azti (Lipsync for a Lullaby), on Cello during the fashionshow plus Harvey Nichol's very own legendary dapper doorman, and chairman ofLeith Folk Club, Fozzie Sayersperforming with ensemble. DJ support from Hobbes(Trouble/Limbo/Wonky).

ART /// On show will be a pop-up exhibition curated by ZWARTCreative Bureau titled ‘(dis)ambiguation’. Featuring the work of threeaward winning young artists, Jamie Fitzpatrick, Ashley Niewenhuizen and Stephanie Richardson, theexhibition presents a collection of sculptural investigations that challengegenetic normality, investigate the fragility of form and identity and focus oneach artist’s fascination with hybrid creatures.

Noir! is curated by its’ offshoot, the recently formed ZWART Creative Bureau.

NKWO is an award winning Nigerian fashion designer currently based in London. James Faulkner, recently featured in the Telegraph, the Evening News, STV and NY Magazine, amongst others will be showing 30+ new pieces, some of which have been made from the road kill he collects on the Highways and byways of Scotland. Dubbed ‘the rogue milliner’, Faulkner has been gaining a huge reputation for work that is bold, edgy and absolutely recycled! This will be Faulkner’s first full show.

Belinda Robertson needs no introduction. Her timeless cashmere pieces have long been respected worldwide. We will showcase a selection of the newest pieces to come out of the studio and are excited to be combining the classic sensual beauty of her designs with Faulkner’s outlandish millinery.

Live music on the night will come via exciting new two-piece 'Top Hat' fronted by the fabulous Asta and an exclusive acoustic set by 'The Little Kicks Unplugged'.

On the decks all night will be the top Glasgow dj, Craig Moogroove (Solardisco) who rocked Noir! # 5 at SWG3 in Glasgow.

Noir! | Chapter Five | Fashion + Film in collaboration with the GFF

The Glasgow Film Festival has asked Noir! to organise a fashion show to follow the screening of 'Comrade Couture', a celebrated new documentary about the fashion scene behind the Berlin wall in the old days of the GDR. The event will take place at SWG3, a fantastic warehouse space in Glasgow which is home to a constant buzz of cutting edge creativity.

We will be using the occasion to celebrate the strongest new Scottish talent with the spirit of rebellion typified in the film by staging a strong performance piece showcasing a selection of fashion designer Iona Crawford's strongest pieces. Already much heralded, Iona Crawford is definitely one to watch and is heading for a stellar career.

We are delighted to welcome Sabine Von Oettingen as a special guest on the night. Van Oettingen is a fashion designer and star of the film and is one of the central characters responsible for the exciting revolution in fashion & hedonism featured in Comrade Couture.

Noir! is an artists collective who have been putting parties on in Scotland over the past year. We showcase new art, fashion, film & music at each event and have quickly become known as one of the go-to events on the calendar.

Join us on 17 September for Noir! number three, celebrating the best of Edinburgh's most creative boutiques in a fashion show and party that rocks.

After two successful nights, Noir! announces its most ambitious project yet: Chapter Three – Fashion.

Date: Thursday 17 September 2009
Venue: The Green Room, 10 Picardy Place, Edinburgh
Time: 7.30pm

Noir! is an expanding concept that started as an exhibition and party at Hawke & Hunter featuring the work of artist and founder Jonathan Freemantle. The success of the first night prompted organisers to stage a second chapter at the same venue inviting a group of artists.
Hawke & Hunter’s new venue, The Green Room, launched in August, is an ideal setting for number three; a grand fashion show and exhibition showcasing Edinburgh’s top models, designers and boutiques.

Noir! was formed by a South African painter, a Dutch model, a Scottish DJ and a musician with the intention of throwing a party they themselves wanted to be at. Chapter Three – Fashion will be the biggest Noir! yet, with over 20 collaborators involved.

Freemantle wants Noir! to be “a place where artists can express themselves without external curatorship in an energised atmosphere that sparks exiting collaborations.”
Noir! loosely bases itself on Andy Warhol’s Factory, particularly in the sense that projects are shown as works in progress. “I want it to be like having a party in an artist’s studio, like being in the cutting room with a filmmaker, where all the excitement of the creative process is still fresh,” says Freemantle.

Modelling and choreographing the show is Anna Freemantle, now Edinburgh based after an internationally successful career that included work for Louis Vuitton and Versace.
“Edinburgh is on the international map thanks to the festivals but this focus has never fully extended to putting fashion under the spotlight. We want to shake the stigma that Edinburgh is a safe, conservative city. There is a daring, creative side that is quintessentially Edinburgh that seldom gets the attention it deserves and we want to bring that to the surface,” she says.
Each boutique is one-off and special to Edinburgh; they represent the very best of what is unique to the city. The show will be graced by internationally celebrated models and supported by a world-class back stage crew.

The boutiques involved are Totty Rocks, Arkangel, Godiva, Concrete Wardrobe, Kakao by K, 21st Century Kilts, Joyce Paton and Boudiche. Hair by Boombarbers and makeup by Carrie-Anne Taylor. An installation by painter Jonathan Freemantle will also be on show as well as sculptural mannequins dressed by each boutique.
